A Friday giveaway! 6 chia seed packs worth $162

Posted on August 3rd, 2012

Another Friday, another wholesome flinging out to you of some damn good food stuff! This time it’s some of my favourite little packages of goodness: chia seeds. Yes,

Chia Seed Co are giving away 6 x chia seed “runner’s packs”, each worth $162

Coconutty granola

Chia seeds are a source of many vitamins, minerals and fats, and are higher in antioxidants than blueberries. I’ve written about them here. They also provide oodles of energy. Forget energy goobs. Ancient Aztecs carried chia seeds as food when they went into battle. And modern Tarahumara Indians, who are accustomed to running for days at a time, carry ground chia seeds as sustenance for their long runs.

They are one of the key ingredients in my I Quit Sugar program and feature in a stack of recipes in my I Quit Sugar Cookbook. So I’m guessing a few of you wouldn’t mind a stash for creating some of the recipes, like the one above?!

Each Chia Seed Co ”runner’s pack” includes:

  • a 500g pack of white chia seeds
  • a 500g pack of black chia seeds
  • a recipe card
  • a copy of Born to Run by Christopher McDougall
  • a 2XU running singlet
  • six months’ subscription to Runners World

I personally use Chia Seed Co white and black seeds, as well as the chia bran for my grain-free porridge in the winter. And, as you might recall, I carry a few chia “shots” when I’m travelling, to sprinkle on breakfast, in smoothies, on my dinner…to keep me regular and healthy.

Also, I have to say that McDougall’s Born To Run changed my life. It’s a cracking yarn and motivated me to start running in shoes without padding. Seriously, it’s the one book I’ve passed around to loved ones most (admittedly, loved ones who like running!).

To be in the running (haw, haw!)  for this giveaway, simply:

  • buy your copy of the I Quit Sugar Cookbook before Wednesday August 8, 5pm and advise below in the comments section that you’re interested in receiving a pack. Six winners will be randomly chosen.
  • this giveaway is only valid within Australia.
Missed out this time?
Chia Seed Co have also created a couple of offers specifically for my readers. If you buy one of their products before August 7, you’ll get free deliver. Just quote coupon code IQS1. And between 25 – 30 September, you’ll receive a free chia oil with any twin purchase. You can also find Chia Seed Co on Facebook.

Have you read Born to Run? Want to receive a runner’s pack? Voice up below….

Born to Run is an amazing book. I actually listened to the audiobook version, so was able to run whilst listening, which was super fun and motivating!
And also, chia pudding rocks my breakfast world.
Would love to be included in the draw for this, Sarah!

    Hi Sarah,

    I’m with you Amie!

I’ve been sugar free for 14 days now and have never felt more in control and clear. My skin is glowing and my whole outlook is one of positivity and joy :)
I like how Sarah called this an experiment and not a diet – it’s about being more aware of your reaction to certain foods and having fun ‘experimenting’ along the way. :)

Hey there, I own both the I quit sugar books and am slowly ridding my lifestyle of sugar. Chia goes in lots of my cooking. I’d love a pack.

Actually, I just finished reading Born to Run about a week ago. Fascinating story. I’m interested in looking into more minimalist running (though I’m one of those people who was always told I need supportive shoes and orthotics because of my biomechanics) and I think running with minimalist shoes through the bush (my favourite activity) would be beneficial – at least I won’t feel like I’m crashing through with heavy shoes disturbing everything!

To go into the draw, do we have to purchase IQS between now and Wednesday? I bought my copy a few months ago, and the IQS Cookbook about 6 weeks ago. Maybe more. I’d still love to be considered though – I’m getting into using chia seeds – have been making “muffins” with almond meal, chia seeds, quinoa flakes, zucchini and parmesan cheese all the time lately.

I’ve not read BORN TO RUN but hear it is amazing. I have both IQS books and would love to win a Chia Seed pack and a copy of the book. My favourite Chia seed recipe at the moment is Chia seed porridge – I cook for approx 6 mins 1/2 ripe pear in a little water with cinnamon and vanilla, then I add half a cup of almond milk and bring to boil. then take it off the heat and add two teaspoons of chia seeds, stir until thickened. then serve with more almond milk and cinnamon. It’s an interpretation of a Teresa Cutter recipe. Divine!!

Hi Sarah, I would love to be one of the winners of the chia seed packs. I bought both your e-books (the IQS program and the IQS cookbook) recently (not in the last few days, though) and enjoy your positive, flexible, realistic attitude to maintaining a healthy diet (and life). I find it encouraging that you don’t preach 100% perfection every time. And I have LOVED your posts from Europe. I hope I can be in the running for this give-away. One suggestion: have you ever thought of adding a ‘blogroll’ page to your blog? From time to time, you mention blogs you read, and it would be great to have a reference list. All the best, x.

    Hi Sarah,

I purchased both your books when they first came out. I cannot begin to express how much the e-books and your regular blog posts have impacted the way i view food and nutrition, and the way i approach life.i feel like my eyes are well and truly open now and i have your blog to thank for getting me well on my way to explore things for myself, always going ‘gently’.

I would love to be considered for this competition as i go through more chia than i do pairs of socks – i suppose this is an opportunity to thank you for the video on how to pack a bag for travel. I now have a pair of inov-8′s that weigh a mere 700grams and stuff my smalls into the soles. I would love to wrap my eyes around a copy of Born to Run, but until then i will settle for the Bruce Springsteen song version. :)

Safe travels, Greece looks more than amazing!

    Hi Sarah,
I have both your 8 week Quit Sugar Plan and also the Cookbook. I live to run and after recently being injured and unable to run i found myself looking for a challenge that didn’t require me to run. Your 8 week plan to quite sugar was just the thing. Although i did not consider myself a sugaholic i found that by eliminating the small amounts i of sugar that were hidden in my diet i am now able to think clearer and have a new sense or strength and achievement. Having completed this challenge is enabling me to better deal with my injury and keep a cool head. I have been consuming Chia products for a little over 12 months now and find that reading Born to run i am even more of an advocate for this amazing wonder food.. I would be greatly appreciative to receive one of the runners packs :)

I quit suagar last September with the help of your other book (and your blog) and have never felt better, I was diagnosed with lung cancer in December and was so pleased to have the ‘no sugar’ thing to focus on, it made me feel like I had control over something:) (I had part of my right lung removed and am all good now). I’m training for my first half marathon and have now been hit by the flu, but a friend came to talk to me the other day and she mentioned both Chia Seeds and Born to Run in the same conversation which for some reason inspired me to get my butt back on track. Sarah,
I want to thank you for helping me to eliminate sugar from my diet. I am losing weight gracefully and, (I think) sustainably. I wasn’t sure that I could do it at the start, but you encouraged me, and now it’s quite easy.
I have noticed some interesting consequences of being on the diet, apart from the lovely weight loss and general feeling of wellbeing! Firstly, I eat less food. I don’t need to eat a large plateful anymore. My portions are smaller, but filling. Secondly, if I do eat a high carb meal such as spag bol, I find that I crave more food for the rest of the night. And it isn’t a carrot stick I crave, it’s more carbs. It takes approximately 2 days for this craving to be out of my system. I no longer suffer from the 4pm ‘low’. I control this with 4-5 raw almonds or a few slices from a block of cheese. I am healthier and fitter than I have ever been. This year I took part in the Mothers’ Day Classic, and recently completed Run Melbourne with a PB, shaving 10 minutes off my previous time. Life’s good. Thank you, Sarah

I’m currently 26 days sugar free thanks to your blog and “Sweet Poison”. I feel the best I’ve felt in at least 2 years.

    Hi Sarah,
I would love to win the chia prize pack. I have both your books and am loving the sugar-free life. Born To Run has been on my reading list for a while now, and I too have switched to minimalist running shoes. Unfortunately I injured myself a couple of months ago and haven’t been able to run at all. I am about to get back into it, starting from scratch again, so the book would be my inspiration and the chia seeds would provide the much needed energy! (Especially the granola and the chia puddings! Yum!)
    Thanks

    Hi Sarah,

Pre-ordered both books. Currently working my way from a 5k to 10k run. Always looking for things to keep me motivated and always looking for new approaches to diet and exercise to see what works best for my body. I have recently discovered our local organic green grocer. Wonderful place for cocoa butter, coconut oil and all of the other wonderful ingredients you have introduced me to and inspired me to use. Chia seeds are yet to appear in my cupboard regularly. Fear of the unkown perhaps!?! Maybe this pack could help me overcome my fear?
    Thanks for sharing your stuff.

I ordered some Chia seeds online and have been making a great alternative to eggs for a filling, sugar-free brekkie.

Mix a cup of natural yoghurt with a tablespoon of chia seeds (I like the black ones so you can see the healthy goodness!), add some shredded coconut and scrape in half a vanilla pod…delicious!

Please enter me in the draw Sarah so I can restock my supplies for making this scrummy breakfast and other delights! :)

    Hi there Sarah…
I have just found your site and find it extremely inspiring and motivating. I have been aware of the clean foods movement for a while now after reading ‘Clean’ by Alehandro Junger and also ‘Liver Cleaning Diet’ by Sandra Cabot. Both of them really ring true about my new found philosophy toward living a cleaner, greener and healthier life. But it was your books (that I purchased the other night) that made it all click into place for me. Previously, I have found it difficult to maintain and stick to clean eating. I live in a remote area where fresh fruit and vegetables are hard to come by – let alone organic ‘green’ food! I have started the liver cleanse, but since reading your book have decided to incorporate principles from all 3 – and it is working so well, for me and my partner. Thank you for making it a lot more simplistic than I thought it was. Sugar is killing our nation (and creating a bigger one) and if more people took the time to read up on their bodies and the right whole foods then we would be in a better position.
Keep up the blogs and being inspiring!
    Sarah

    Hi Sarah
I have just recently bought your “I quit sugar” after reading about sugar from David Gillespie’s books. Whilst the concept of no sugar is something I agree with, I think its easier said then done.

I am now reading and cooking your recipe book. I am trying to introduce a better way of eating for not just myself, but my family, my husband, son, my parents, brother, sister and friends.

I am starting to cook, bake myself and its a challenge. These items will support me in my goal to better health and longevity. But also I just want to say thank you Sarah!Thank you for introducing a different way of thinking towards sugar free meals. The recipes in your book are not the common and boring way of doing this! Its actually made me excited about cooking again!

I too bought the book when it first came out. Love it. I gave up sugar 9 months ago and the thing that stopped me craving sugar within 2 days of giving it up was Chia seeds. They are amazing. I take them every day in water to fill me up before lunch and they provide protein, fibre and energy. I’ve lost 18kgs and it’s been so easy thanks to chia seeds. I also use them in cooking and I tell all my friends and family about them. I know I wouldn’t have found it so easy to give up sugar without them (and I love to bake). I would love to win the Chia pack as I use them all the time.

I recently found your website and am in sugar-free heaven every single time I check out your blogs! I was so inspired I had to immediately buy both ebooks, proceeded to spend all of Friday and Saturday reading them, then spent all of Sunday cooking from them (kale chips are a revelation! They totally rock my world).
Chia seeds have been a key part of my breakfast life for the last few months, and after checking out your IQS recipes, I think they’re going to be bigger part of all of my meals.

Long live Chia seeds and long live quitting sugar!

Please, please take me off your mailing list. I have tried through your manager, but it hasn’t worked. I cannot find any place on your site to unsubscribe. Thank you.

I’ve also starting training for my first half marathon and being sugar free has given more energy that i could imagine! Have been adding chia seeds into my diet for the last 5months and can say that i certainly have seen the benefits! Would love to be in the running for this..

    Safe travels,

    Hi Sarah,
Purchased your IQS book a few weeks ago and the cookbook a week or two ago, and have thoroughly enjoyed the inspiration and guidance – thank you so much!

I’d LOVE to be in the running for the Chia Seed Co pack (love that they’re Aussie!) – I have a small bag of their white seeds on the bench right now but have yet to break them open to try out a chia pudding – my first venture into the exciting world if Chia.

(Also just thought to mention that I am not the same person as the ‘Sharni’ above – strange that two such similar names come one after the other!)

    With gratitude.

I’m also a born-to-run fan, and chia consumer. I’m sugar free, paleo and intermittent fasting, and have never been healthier. My inner journey is interesting too (Eckhart Tolle anyone?).

On the unpadded shoes thing – can I recommend softstarshoes.com? (no affiliation etc). Handmade, totally flat, wonderful. I also make my own running sandals, which is very satisfying.

Sarah – thanks for your honesty and vulnerability on this blog. It’s getting more difficult and rarer to find authenticity, but you are embodying that. Thank you.

    Hi
I purchased the I Quit Sugar Cookbook some weeks ago and have had the Chia Pudding for breakfast at least 3 times a week. Absolutely love it!!! I was unable to get the white chia seeds to start with because I live in a small coastal town and had to wait to get to a larger city to get some. I have only noticed that last Saturday Coles (the only supermarket here) now stock the white ones (Coles brand of course which I try to avoid as much as possible. I have been using chia seeds on my breakfast for quite some time now but soaking them gives them a whole new dimension.
    Love them heaps.
    Regards Merel
